Here’s a Checklist Before You Call a Moving Company

All the tedious task of sorting and packing up can easily send you calling up the movers to get the help that you need. But before doing so, here are the basics you need to know in order to get the best deal for your moving requirements.

Distance

Professional moving companies give different quotes for long distance and short distance journeys. To increase the accuracy of the quote you would receive, it would be best to determine the distance to your new place. So that you could provide them with the exact distance they would have to travel your belongings.

Your Home’s Layout

If you have any narrow spaces in your home, if they have to navigate stairs, and negotiate tight corners and doorways, you’ll have to let the movers know in advance. This goes for both your old home and your new home. This way you can be sure that they have the equipment and the capability to move all of your belongings out of the old place and into the new place without leaving anything behind. Letting your movers know if you’ll be moving heavy furniture would also help them serve you better and care for your belongings.

Label Your Items Accordingly

Knowing where every box needs to go will save you a lot of time unpacking and get you started on arranging and decorating your home sooner. By letting the movers know exactly where everything should go, you’ll save a lot of time pushing boxes, or worse, having to carry them yourself up the stairs. Label the boxes accordingly and have them set the boxes in the right room so you can easily unpack and organize.

Time and Day of Your Move

Check to see if your desired move date is available and have 3 other dates handy just in case you need it. Are you planning to move very early in the morning or late in the evening? The travel time may vary depending on the time of day.

Lastly, before having the movers come in to assess your home for a quote, sort through your own things and get rid of the ones you no longer need. The fewer items you move, the lighter the weight of your package will be.
